The First Post

So today I've finally created a blog. I've been thinking about doing this for some time, but just never have gotten around to it. I'm leaving for India next week for a month and thought this would be a wonderful excuse to get myself into action.

First a brief word about the title of my blog. I love homophones, especially misused ones. For example, someone will write two instead of too or... well, you get it. Anyway, my love for travel emerged while studying abroad in Petrozavodsk, Russia as an undergraduate student. I was clueless, still in culture shock 2 months into the 4-month program. One cold day, my host mom invited me to her office for lunch. It was a grey building, cold and dark inside. Naturally, I got there at the appointed time. I sat down and was enjoying all of her textiles and crafts in the room where she worked. She was a home economics teacher for the local university. As I was surveying the surroundings, she ladeled some soup into a bowl. I didn't think much of it, but when I looked down to see what was in the bowl, I saw a fish eye staring at me in the face! Well, HELLO! This was definitely a first and I'm sure my expression was priceless. I didn't even know how to eat it. She explained that the fish head was for flavoring and all I had to do was pick the little bit of pink out of what was left in the head... which I did. The dish was excellent. I talked about it in my Russian language class later that week, and the professor told me and the two other guys on the program how nutrient-rich that soup really is. I can believe it. And so, to bring this altogether... I didn't get the fish tail that day, but have collected many tall-tales and wonderful stories from all my travels and adventures.

That's it for today--all I needed to do was to get this sucker started. Stay tuned... hopefully this won't be my last post for the year!
